Querétaro ranked first in IMCO's 2026 Urban Competitiveness Index among Mexican metropolitan areas with more than one million inhabitants. The Querétaro metropolitan zone comprises the municipalities of Querétaro, Corregidora, El Marqués, and Huimilpan. In the Political System and Governments sub-index, own-source revenues represent 61.88 percent of local government income, a key indicator of fiscal autonomy. The region's economic diversification spans 788 active sectors, with an average hotel occupancy rate of 60.23 percent.

The next IMCO reference report will be published in 2027, and the challenges identified by the institute in urban infrastructure, water management, and public safety will set the metropolitan area's agenda for the months ahead.
